Presence

We designed and developed an app that automatically logged a user into their MAC based on proximity of their mobile device. We used BLE on iPhones to collect device IDs and keys from MACs and verified authorization over a firebase. Once done, the iphone’s presence and proximity could be used to lock and unlock the MAC. Proximity is determined by bluetooth signal strength and thus we had to implement hysteresis as a solution for dealing with the otherwise frequent switching (locking and unlocking of the device) and produce a desirable and consistent user experience.
